Chicago Bears’ Twitter Account Gets Hacked, Falsely Announces New Ownership

It may be time to change your Twitter password because not even NFL teams’ official accounts are safe from being hacked.

A group of hackers based out of Saudi known as ‘OurMine’ took credit for hacking the Chicago Bears’ official account announcing new ownership.

The hackers ‘announced’ that Turki Al-Sheikh, who is a Saudi Arabian royal court advisor, would be the new owner of the Bears. That’s not the case, however, as the owner is Virginia McCaskey, who is the daughter of team founder George Halas.

The group could have tweeted out something much worse after hacking the team’s account that has 1.8 million followers, but instead simply wanted to announced that they’re ‘back’ and show that ‘everything is hackable.’

So, in summary, this group of hackers hacked one of the most high-profile sports accounts in North America to plug their email address and essentially get a job. Again, the hack could have been much worse, but it sounds like they just want other company’s business in keeping their accounts safe.

According to the ever-trusing site that is Wikipedia ‘In 2016, OurMine hacked the Twitter accounts of Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, Pokémon Go creator John Hanke, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, Google CEO Sundar Pichai,  and Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, whose Pinterest was also hacked. In addition to social media accounts, the group has hacked the website TechCrunch.’

So, the Bears’ account clearly wasn’t the highest-profile person or organization they’ve hacked into.

The Internet remains to be cool, yet also scary as hell.
